Malaysia–Singapore Power Supply Agreement Signing
On 20 September 2024, a signing ceremony was held at TNB Platinum to formalise an Energy Supply Agreement between Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Singapore’s Keppel Electric Pte. Ltd. (Keppel) for the supply of up to 100MW of electricity via the existing Malaysia–Singapore interconnection.
Within Malaysia’s electricity market framework, Single Buyer administers the contractual and operational arrangements governing cross-border electricity transactions. The agreement represents an important milestone in advancing regional electricity trade and forms part of the Lao PDR–Thailand–Malaysia–Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP), which seeks to strengthen multilateral power exchange across ASEAN.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), Suruhanjaya Tenaga, TNB, the Energy Market Authority of Singapore (EMA), Keppel and SP PowerAssets Limited. The agreement was signed by Datuk Ir. Megat Jalaluddin bin Megat Hassan and Keppel Managing Director Ms. Janice Bong, witnessed by TNB Company Secretary Mr. Ali Munawar Salim and Keppel Assistant Managing Director Mr. Andrew Toh.
In conjunction with the supply agreement, TNB also executed a Cross-Border Power Trade Interconnection Agreement with SP PowerAssets Limited to ensure reliable electricity transmission between Malaysia and Singapore.
The development reflects growing momentum toward deeper regional interconnectivity under the ASEAN Power Grid initiative. Through its role in administering cross-border contractual frameworks and market arrangements, Single Buyer continues to strengthen the institutional foundations required for transparent, reliable and scalable regional electricity trade.
