ENEGEM Pilot Phase 1 Advances with Signing of Renewable Energy Supply Agreement
Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has signed a Renewable Energy Supply Agreement (RESA) with Sembcorp Power Pte Ltd, a licensed electricity importer in Singapore, for the supply of 50MW of renewable electricity via the existing Malaysia–Singapore interconnection. The signing ceremony was held on 9 December 2024 at Dewan Baiduri, Menara PETRA, Putrajaya.
The RESA marks the successful outcome of the first competitive bidding exercise conducted on 19 June 2024 under Pilot Phase 1 of Energy Exchange Malaysia (ENEGEM), which is operated by Single Buyer. Through this structured and transparent process, Sembcorp Power emerged as one of the successful bidders, securing 50MW of renewable energy supply sourced from Malaysia’s existing green generation portfolio.
The milestone demonstrates the operationalisation of cross-border renewable energy trade under ENEGEM and reinforces Malaysia’s commitment to facilitating structured, rules-based green electricity transactions within the region. By leveraging existing interconnection infrastructure, the initiative enhances regional grid utilisation, supports renewable energy market development, and provides participating market players with greater access to cross-border green energy opportunities.
ENEGEM continues to serve as a key platform in advancing Malaysia’s role in the regional energy transition, promoting transparency, reliability and investor confidence in cross-border renewable energy exchanges.
