Market Engagement with EMA and EMC, Singapore
From 5–6 July 2023, a Single Buyer delegation led by Head of Single Buyer, Ir. Zainudin Md Yusof, conducted technical engagements with the Energy Market Authority (EMA) and Energy Market Company (EMC) in Singapore.
The sessions examined the governance architecture underpinning the Singapore National Electricity Market (NEMS), as well as the operational design of the Singapore Wholesale Electricity Market (SWEM). Discussions covered market rules, dispatch and pricing mechanisms, regulatory oversight, and the delineation of responsibilities between regulator and market operator within a competitive electricity environment.
Through these engagements, Single Buyer deepened its institutional understanding of structured wholesale market operations, transparent pricing frameworks and real-time system administration in a dynamic market setting. Insights from EMC’s operational model provided practical perspectives on market clearing, compliance monitoring and stakeholder management in a liberalised environment.
The exchange also strengthened professional linkages with Singapore’s market institutions, reinforcing regional dialogue on cross-border electricity trade and market integration.
By benchmarking against established market models, Single Buyer continues to refine its governance, market administration and operational frameworks — enhancing readiness for a progressively more open, transparent and interconnected electricity market landscape.
