Guideline- National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR)
Launched in 2023, the NETR is Malaysia's strategic and comprehensive blueprint to transition towards a sustainable energy future. It sets an ambitious target of achieving a 70% renewable energy (RE) capacity mix by 2050, supported by catalytic flagship projects and a focus on key transition enablers like green hydrogen, carbon capture, and grid modernization, providing a clear direction for the decarbonization of the nation's power sector.
Guideline- Evolution of Malaysia's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)
Malaysia has consistently elevated its climate ambition, evolving from its 2016 NDC 1.0 with a 45% reduction in emissions intensity of GDP (35% unconditional) to the updated 2021 NDC 2.0, which strengthened the unconditional commitment to a 45% intensity reduction and expanded the scope of greenhouse gases covered. The NDC 3.0 marks a significant step forward, committing to a peak in GHG emissions between 2029 and 2034, an absolute emissions reduction target of 15 to 30 MtCO₂eq, and economy-wide coverage across all seven greenhouse gases. A further reduction of up to 10 MtCO₂eq is conditional on climate finance, technology transfer, and capacity-building support from international sources, including through bilateral carbon credit cooperation.
Guideline- National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP)
The NEEAP is a crucial national strategy designed to optimize energy consumption across all economic sectors. By promoting efficient technologies, standards, and best practices, the plan aims to reduce energy waste, lower carbon emissions, and enhance Malaysia's energy security and competitiveness, making it a fundamental pillar in the nation's overall strategy to meet its climate and sustainability goals.
