SB recently embarked on a study in 2020 to develop a new peak demand forecasting framework for long term planning. The study also reviews SB’s current forecasting framework and benchmarks peak demand forecasting frameworks with other countries. A workshop was held on 4 August 2020 to brief the industry stakeholders on the outcome of the study.
Itron Inc. from the United States was appointed to develop the new peak demand forecasting framework for SB. The study ran from April 2020 and was completed in August 2020. Based on the findings of the study, Itron developed the new peak demand forecasting framework that addresses SB’s concerns and considers the major uncertainties such as renewable energy (RE), energy efficiency (EE), electric vehicles (EV), etc that are expected to occur over the next 21 years. The workshop was attended by representatives from ST, TNB STAR, TNB Distribution Network, and TNB Grid. The principal consultant from Itron walked the participants through the new framework via video conferencing. Many valuable feedbacks and inputs from the participants were gathered and incorporated in the study.
