On 15 August 2022, Single Buyer (SB) delegates together with representatives from Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) had a technical meeting with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) at their Headquarters in Kuching. The objective of the half day meeting was to gain a better understanding on Sarawak’s electricity supply industry, renewable energy initiatives, interconnection potential and hydrogen projects.
The meeting was then followed by a visit to the Integrated Hydrogen Production Plant and Refueling Station at SEB’s Western Regional Office in Kuching. During this visit, delegates were given a briefing on the operations of the hydrogen production plant and refueling station. Delegates also had the opportunity to test drive the Hyundai Nexo, which is a hydrogen fuel-cell powered vehicle.
On 16 August 2022, delegates visited the Bakun Hydroelectric Plant. The journey from Bintulu to Bakun was a three-hour drive through challenging road terrain. The technical visit started with a briefing on the plant history and operations. This was followed by a tour around the hydroelectric plant where delegates had the opportunity to observe the main reservoir, main intake, spillway and powerhouse.
