Single Buyer (SB) organised a three-day Strategic Planning Workshop from 13 to 15 December 2022 with the objective to discuss and strategise the plan for SB’s future operation.
The first day of the workshop began with a sharing session on the National Energy Policy 2022 – 2040 (NEP) by En. Moktar Idham bin Musa, Deputy Director of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) from the Prime Minister’s Office. Key highlights of the NEP are Malaysia’s journey on climate change commitments in particular the National Low Carbon Aspiration 2040.
The workshop then continued with deliberation on the SB Generation and SB Operation First Draft forecast figures for IBR RP4.
Another topic in the spotlight was MyPower’s Future-Proofing MESI study by McKinsey. The study has identified four (4) key reform areas, namely governance, planning, industry and tariff. As part of the study outcome, the workshop also discussed on the potential transitioning towards SB being operationally independent.
This was followed by a sharing session on the recent technical visit to Australia, which was participated by several SB representatives. The topics focused on solar farms, energy storage systems and Integrated System Planning (ISP). There was also a break-out session to brainstorm on the Integrated System Planning proposal for the upcoming JPPPET.
The final day of the workshop covered discussions on the 2023 KPI as well as the outcome of the Single Buyer Stakeholder Confidence Survey 2022. The survey results were presented by the appointed consultant, ILSAS Consulting Group (in collaboration with Metrix Research Sdn. Bhd.). The Stakeholder Confidence Survey result is used to gauge the performance of SB in delivering its role to the stakeholders. SB believes that the outcome of this survey will help to improve its performance in the future.
